A recent report confirmed what many California beer lovers already suspected: we’re the undisputed capital of craft beer in the U.S.
A report by the Brewers Association released on Tuesday found that California has 850 small and independent breweries, more than any other state. They produced $7.3 billion worth of suds. That’s considerably more than the other top 5 states: Pennsylvania ($5.8 billion), Texas ($4.5 billion), New York ($3.4 billion) and Florida ($3.1 billion).
Nationwide, the economic impact of craft breweries has doubled from 2012 to 2106. In 2012 American craft brewers had a $33.9 billion impact; last year they

In 2015, Jose Santamaria was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident. The Sacramento restaurant employee wasn’t expected to live.
But he did. He survived, and the medical bills mounted. The restaurant community came together and raised money to support Santamaria, when he was unable to work.
Alycia Harshfield, executive director for the California Restaurant Association Foundation, realized her organization needed to step in and help. At that moment, Restaurants Care was born.
The program provides basic living expenses to help restaurant workers who face unforeseen hardships, illnesses or a natural disaster.
Harshfield said Restaurants Care wants to give “peace of mind” to workers
Every First Friday of the month my husband throws a party in his Man Cave to celebrate craft beer.
The theme changes each time as we attempt to bring a variety of tasting rooms to our backyard. One month we’ll focus on San Diego brews. The next month, we’ll go with the Pacific Northwest.
Sometimes it’s all about the styles: Belgians, IPAs, German lagers, and English ales.
In the beginning nine years ago, we rarely sampled Orange County beers because there weren’t many. Bootlegger’s Brewery in Fullerton and The Bruery in Placentia were barely getting started.
But the Orange County brewery landscape has changed dramatically
Irvine-based In-N-Out confirmed plans to add two more restaurants in the greater Las Vegas-area, boosting its total in Nevada to nearly 20 locations.
The new restaurants are scheduled to open at the corners of Sahara/Hualapi and Flamingo/Sandhill, according to Carl Arena, vice president of development and real estate for the iconic chain.
He said both locations are “still in the final permitting stages and there is quite a bit of preparatory infrastructure work to be completed before we can set a construction start date.”
Once construction begins, the restaurants will likely open within four to five months, Arena said.

The specialty coffee scene in Orange County doesn’t appear to be slowing down. The latest gourmet cafes include a third location for Hidden House Coffee Roaster and a newcomer to the county, Steelhead Coffee, a popular Long Beach cafe.
Hidden House, with its flagship cafe in the historic Los Rios district in San Juan Capistrano, opened a location this spring near the Santa Ana train depot. The cafe roasts its beans and specializes in pour-over coffee. The coffee house is at 511 E. Santa Ana Blvd.
The coffee house owners also opened Dear Lacy in the same center. The bistro, at 601 E.
Roasted cherry tomatoes are an easy last-minute vegetable option. They are delicious on their own as a side dish, or served atop piping hot store-bought ravioli. Trader Joe’s and many supermarkets carry an interesting array of fresh refrigerated stuffed pastas, pouches filled with everything from cauliflower to goat cheese to pot roast.
While the tomatoes are roasting, cook the pasta; drain it and toss with extra-version olive oil plus salt and pepper, or a judicious amount of prepared basil pesto. Drape the tomatoes on top and enjoy the intrinsic sweet, herbal notes they bring.
