Wooden Legacy roundup: Washington State edges Saint Joe’s on late 3-pointer

FULLERTON — Malachi Flynn is Washington State’s only returning starter, so naturally he wanted the ball with the game on the line.

Flynn hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with five seconds remaining, lifting Washington State to a 75-71 victory over Saint Joseph’s after the Cougars rallied from a 20-point first-half deficit in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy on Thursday at Cal State Fullerton.

Flynn didn’t have a good game, with just nine points, two assists, one turnover and zero rebounds. Coach Ernie Kent sat him down for a long stretch before the sophomore returned and hit a deep 3-pointer that

LaVar Ball goes on CNN to talk about President Donald Trump and the Internet goes nuts

LaVar Ball joined CNN for a live interview with anchor Chris Cuomo on Monday night to discuss his recent controversy with President Donald Trump, which escalated Sunday when President Trump tweeted out several remarks about Ball’s recent comments about the President’s involvement with getting Ball’s son LiAngelo and two other UCLA basketball players out of jail in China. The trio of UCLA players were detained and arrested for shoplifting in China earlier this month.

Here is a little taste of Monday night’s interview:

Cal State Fullerton’s men’s soccer team advances to NCAA tournament

By Jeong Park

Cal State Fullerton men’s soccer now boasts three Big West Conference championships and NCAA tournament bids in the last four years.

The team’s past four Big West championship games — including one loss — were all close.

A double overtime win in 2014. A 1-0 win in 2015. A double overtime loss in 2016. A penalty kick win in 2017.

“It’s nerve wrecking,” head coach George Kuntz said. “Everybody’s on the edge of their seat.”

CSUF (10-7-4, 5-4-2 in Big West) defeated UC Davis 4-3 in penalty kicks on Saturday to clinch the Big West Tournament Championship and an automatic bid

USC to begin preparation for UCLA with no Pac-12 South ramifications

The past three seasons have seen USC enter its rivalry game against UCLA with its Pac-12 South championship aspirations also at stake.

Last season, the Trojans defeated the Bruins to stay in contention behind Colorado in the race, before entering the final weekend of the regular season. When they prevailed in 2015, their victory clinched the division.

Then there was 2014, when the Trojans were eliminated from contention by a Brett Hundley-led bunch.

This Saturday will differ.

USC has already wrapped up the Pac-12 South, following last weekend’s 38-24 victory at Colorado, and will appear in the conference championship next month. The 87th
