Breeders’ Cup Notes: Bob Baffert’s foursome leads deep field for Classic

SOLANA BEACH — Trainer Steve Asmussen’s assistant, Scott Blasi, said Monday he’s never seen one trainer possess the arsenal Bob Baffert plans to unleash on the rest of the field Saturday in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar.

Two power outages and one car crash leave 1,600 customers without electricity in La Palma and Cypress

Dual power outages, including one caused by a traffic collision, left more than 1,600 Southern California Edison customers in west Orange County without power Monday evening, Oct. 30.

In La Palma, 138 customers were without electricity after a car sheared a power pole around 6 p.m. near La Palma Avenue – where it turns into Del Amo Boulevard – and Bloomfield Avenue, officials for Southern California Edison and the Orange County Fire Authority said.

The pole was left hanging by its wires. An above-ground electrical vault was also damaged, causing SCE to shut off the power, said Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange

UCLA’s Jim Mora defends Josh Rosen in face of criticism about toughness

LOS ANGELES — When he met the media Monday, Jim Mora declined to clear up any speculation about the nature of the injuries that knocked Josh Rosen out of Saturday’s game against Washington, but the UCLA head coach does want to make this clear: don’t question the quarterback’s toughness.

After ESPN analyst Brock Huard seemed to do just that on the TV broadcast Saturday, Mora clapped back at the former Washington quarterback.

“I would put very little stock into anything that Brock Huard has to say about football,” said Mora, who, like Huard, is a Washington alumnus. “That will be controversial.
