Fountain Valley-based Hyundai preparing to unveil new Accent at OC International Auto Show

Fountain Valley-based Hyundai USA is revving its engines for the new car model year.

The automaker will have the North American debut of its redesigned Accent, the company’s foundational car, at the OC International Auto Show , which runs from Thursday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

“You only launch an all-new car every three or four years,” said Miles Johnson, senior manager of public relations for Hyundai. “It’s extremely important because it’s the entry car.”

The 2018 Accent is the fifth generation of the car launched in 1994. Johnson said after new buyers are introduced to the

The road to Canelo-Golovkin rematch is getting paved already

Negotiations began this week for a rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, who staged a thrilling split draw in Las Vegas on Saturday.

HBO will show a replay of the event Saturday at 7 p.m.

Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, said the middleweight champion would prefer another fight before then.

“We had hoped he could fight in December but after a fight like that, you would be looking more at January or February,” Loeffler said. “But if Canelo isn’t fighting again until the rematch, then

These are weird times for the high-scoring Rams, who must clean up on defense

After three games, and with a weekend off for correction, the Rams need to sustain their high-powered offense and clean up their defensive and special-teams mistakes. So, things have changed just a bit.

In 2016, the Rams had the NFL’s lowest-scoring offense but were above-average on defense and excellent on special teams. Now, after a Thursday win over San Francisco, the Rams take a rare weekend break, and they likely will end it as the NFL’s highest-scoring offense, at 35.7 points per game.

The defense? Well, eyes need to be averted at times. The 49ers, who failed to score a touchdown

Yorba Linda became what some early leaders sought

My Sept. 8 column – part of an occasional series related to Yorba Linda’s 50th anniversary – recalled that Herb Warren was the only person elected to the first City Council who opposed incorporation, although he later stated those who supported cityhood were “farsighted.”

Three other members of the city’s first governing body elected from a still-record field of 27 candidates also reflected on Yorba Linda’s initial years as a city in separate interviews with Dennis Swift for the Cal State Fullerton oral history program in 1988.

Two – Roland Bigonger and Bill Ross – were pleased with the city’s evolution during
