Suspicious envelope in Huntington Beach neighborhood prompts hazmat response

HUNTINGTON BEACH — A report of a suspicious envelope left in a neighborhood prompted Huntington Beach Fire Department and its hazmat crew to the 8200 block of Terry Drive on Wednesday night.

Authorities received a call from a resident about 6:08 p.m. on May 31 about a suspicious envelope, Dispatch Supervisor Sam Ahumada said. The location where the envelope was found was not given.

Fire and hazmat cleared the scene about 9 p.m. and no injuries were reported, Ahumada said.

The contents of the envelope are still unknown and the Orange County Health Department remains on scene, Ahumada said.

Fire in Santa Ana apartment displaces 2 people

SANTA ANA — A fire at the Villas at Tustin apartment complex on Wednesday night displaced two people, authorities said.

Authorities were called to 2424 Tustin Ave. at 8:33 on Wednesday, May 31, for a report of a fire in the back bedroom of a first-floor apartment, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz said.

Between OCFA and the City of Orange Fire Department, there were 26 firefighters on scene and they were able to keep the blaze contained to the bedroom and put out within 15 minutes, Kurtz said. The fire did not affect any other units in the complex, he added.

No injuries
